Drivetrain Tech / Front 5 lug disk question
The person that used to sell direct replacement 5 lug front disks doesn't seem to sell them anymore.  I tried the SN95 conversion, but the rims I want wouldn't fit.

Will this disk work for a V8 1987 Cougar XR7 or can you suggest a better route?

I want to change as little hardware as possible and still be able to use old school chrome rims.  I'm currently using 15x7 Chrome blade rims.  Mine are Cragar, but they don't sell them anymore.

Suspension/Steering / Rims won't fit over caliper, need advice
I bought 94/95 mustang spindles for the front of my 87 Cougar.  They came with the big twin piston PBR brake calipers. I ordered old school 15 inch Cragar rims to fit a 95 Mustang, but they won't fit over these big fat calipers. I really don't want to buy new rims so can I just buy normal 95 brake calipers and put them on? Since it's a 95 spindle I'm guessing a normal 95 caliper would bolt right on? The rotors are 11 inch. Would the normal 95 caliper give me more clearance?

This 5 lug conversion is starting to become stressful and expensive. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Drivetrain Tech / Question on going from 2.73 to 3.55
A guy at work is telling me that if I go from the 2.73 rear end to the 3.55 then it will throw off the speedometer and that the transmission won't shift gears at the same speeds that it does with the 2.73.  Is that true?  Will I need to change a lot with the transmission if I go to the 3.55 rear?

Body/Appearance/Interior / Rims - 15x8 or 15x7 best one?
Trying to make my sons 87 Cougar XR7 look good for when he turns 16.  I've got the 95 mustang spindles on it and will probably soon have a 97 mustang GT rear end for it.  I want the wheels to look like the car has power, but I don't want them sticking out so far that it looks stupid.

Going to go with Cragar Super Spoke rims and solid raised white letter tires.

Does anyone have a wheel setup like this?  Also interested in what you went with for backspacing and tire size. I'm not good with car stuff so I may keep asking dumb questions, but I'm learning more and more as I go.

Drivetrain Tech / Need information to replace rear diff
I bought my son his first car a couple months ago.  It's a 1987 Mercury Cougar XR7. It's a 4 lug.  I want to convert it to 5 lug.  The problem is that I've seen a ton of information about the rear diff, but a lot of it seems confusing.  Some say one thing is a perfect fit, but then others say that's wrong.  Too long too short  etc...

What I know: The tag on the diff housing is hard to read, but it's model V493B which as far as I can tell is a 2.73 Ratio with a 7.5 Gear Ring 28 spline (NL).  I'm guessing the NL means Not limited slip?  It has the 2 regular shocks then the 2 smaller stabilizer shocks.

What should I look for as an exact fit replacement?  What's easiest to find? I'm willing to replace the entire rear or just the axle shafts.  I just want to make sure I get the right parts so I can get this car looking/running good for my son.  Any help is greatly appreciated.
