T-Bird/Cougar Parts & Cars FOR SALE / 86 T-Bird for sale
For Sale: 86 T-Bird, 3.8L V6, C5 trans, 220,000 miles. I have owned my T-Bird since 2000 and since I have gotten my 93 Mustang onto the road it is time for the T-Bird to find a home with someone who can use it for parts or for a project. The T-Bird runs good for the mileage. The engine and trans work great. I just put wheel cylinders and front brake hoses on last year. The tires have 4/32 on them. It will need the battery replaced as it is dead and won't take a charge. It can be jumped started though and it runs fine. The front struts need to be replaced. I had a Mustang GT sway bar on the front but I scavenged it for my Mustang project so this would need to be replaced. This car would make a good base for a project. The interior is in pretty good shape. The paint is rough and has some small rust spots. I am asking $450. This is negotiable. Make an offer. I live in the Harrisburg PA area. You can contact me by email at..fordracer08@comcast.net I will post pictures shortly.

Suspension/Steering / 11" 5 lug brake swap
Thanks for the info and the link to coolcats.net. I thought the mustang brakes would work but I was not sure about the mustang clutch pedal assembly. The mustang clutch pedal will probably be easier to find. I see them on E-bay all the time. Thanks again.

Suspension/Steering / 11" 5 lug brake swap
I've got an 86 T-bird with a V6 and auto trans. I am making plans for my next project and I want to put 11" 5 lug brakes onto my T-bird. Are the 5.0L mustang spindles a bolt on for this swap? I have 87 - 93 5.0L spindles, 5 lug rotors, calipers and hoses. I also want to swap in a 5.0L and a T5 trans. Is the Turbo coupe the only model that a clutch pedal set-up can be swapped out of? What year Turbo coupes will work for an 86 T-bird? Any input appreciated.

Engine Tech / 3.8L timing cover
Thanks Old Paint. I was pretty sure that I pulled a 3.8 timing cover some years ago without pulling the pan. I remember not being able to get the cover off and then found that allen bolt under the oil filter mount. So when I read in the chilton manual that the pan had to come off  I started doubting my memory. I thought this forum would be the place to ask. I have an 86 T-Bird that i've put well over 100K miles on. It now has 216K miles and have not been in the motor except for resealing the intake and valve covers. It is time to reseal the timing cover. It is seeping coolant. I should probably take a good look at the timing chain and the cam thrust button too. Thanks again.

Engine Tech / 3.8L timing cover
Will the timing cover on the 3.8L V6 come off with out removing the oil pan? This is in a 86 T-Bird. The Chiltons manual says you have to remove the oil pan but I thought some years ago I pulled one off without pulling the pan. Maybe I'm mistaken but any insight would be appreciated.Thanks.

Engine Tech / 3.8L fuel pressure
When checking fuel pressure on an 86 T-Bird with 3.8L should the pressure be steady all the time or should it rise when you rev the engine up. There is no vacuum hose on the CFI system. What should the pressure be? Thanks.
