Lounge / Lifting my house, and not with bare hands!
Hey Guys,  So as many of you may remember my adventures of living through Hurricane Sandy.  We have been back home for 2+ years now and all is well.  The Feds and NY state have a program called NY Rising, which was created to offset damage from future storms and floods to those worst affected.  In other words, they will pay to raise my home.  The process is very cool, and we are still many months away from the project start, lots of planning to do until then.  Basically the house will lifted 8+ feet higher, a new foundation and slab poured and then my current ground level will be a 2000+ sq foot man cave and garage.  I can improve the base level, but technically its not living space and they won't pay a dime if any flood damage occurs to any contents on that level.  I don't see it as being a issue at all,  aside from Sandy there has never been a flood in my area in modern history.  All i have to do is get enough Birds to fill the new garage!

Electrical Tech / Electrical Issue on my 1983 Bird
Changed the battery and either as a result or by coincidence the headlight switch is working but only main headlights.  The 15amp fuse keeps blowing as soon as you place it in the fuse holder.  Any thoughts?  My gut feeling tells me its not the headlight switch, but i am open to all thoughts.  The car is a 77K mile very original and well maintained survivor.  None of the wiring is cut or hacked anywhere in this car.

This is the fuse thats tripping.

General Fox T-Bird/Cougar Discussion / My $50 TRX Wheel/Tire score
These were summer wheels and tires for a 84 Cougar XR-7 and when the car sold it was wearing its winter wheels and tires.  He forgot about these for a number of years, put ad on CL and they came home with me for $50.  Perfect tires, stored in a clean dry temperature controlled cellar.  Tire shop owner said they should be fine for local driving and shows.  I have a spare set of mint tires for it as well.  Car looks way better in my opinion than the polycast's she was wearing before.

General Fox T-Bird/Cougar Discussion / Chance to trade my 83 Heritage for a 69K mile 84 Turbo Coupe (Thoughts wanted)
Hey guys, i just got a interesting trade opportunity to trade my 1983 Thunderbird Heritage with 80K for a minty 1984 Turbo Coupe.  Both are white cars, both in about the same excellent shape and we are both willing to straight out trade.
The TC is White with the charcoal 2 tone lower treatment and a grey cloth interior in amazing shape.  Its an Auto TC which for 84 has to be a very rare option, and is the perfect unicorn car that i am attracted to.  This would be my first TC and first 2.3 Turbo.  What should my concerns be for this engine and turbo and what other trouble spots do i need to look for?

Thanks

D

Lounge / Bye Bye Mark VII, Hello Saab 9-7X Aero Truck
So my minty 89 Mark VII with 36K was really nice, but really impractical.  Too nice to daily drive, and not needing another toy, i needed a fun car i could realistically daily drive.  I had very little actual cash into the LSC, as i had got the car for a photography barter from a colleague of mine.  I put out a loose feeler on a Lincoln page, and the car sold in 5 minutes flat for more than i wanted.  So i now have a $6,500 budget to find me a cool, but usable daily driver.  I have in previous years owned 6 different Saab's, and know the brand well.  All were excellent driving, reliable and well thought out.  I went and found me a very rare 2008 Saab 9-7x Aero truck.  This is a rebadged version of the Chevy Trailblazer SS.  The main differences are the upgraded and much nicer interior, factory Nav and rear DVD player, upgraded tuned suspension, and the typical Saab'ish things like flip out cup holder, funky dash vents and center console ignition.  Oh, and the LS2 Corvette Drivetrain with 6.0 motor, and 4:10 factory gears.  It will tow 6500 pounds or haul your butt in 0-60 in 5.8 seconds.  Only 623 Aero trucks were built and are very rare.  A true sleeper and a Unicorn.  My favorite kind of car.  I will post a few photos soon, and the car is being delivered next week.

Lounge / 1987 Mclaren Mustang might be in my future
I may be trading my 89 LSC for a nice 87 Mclaren Mustang Convertible.  Not as low miles, or as clean my car, but way more fun.  I really miss a ragtop since i sold my 70 Torino GT Convertible.  I paid zero for the LSC, and bartered some labor with someone to get it, so no emotion in that car for me as nice as it is.  I will end up with a clean Mclaren, with some cash to spare for some upgrades/maintenance and a little money for my wallet to boot.  I will post some pics once i know the deal is on.  Its a white paint with grey interior and Auto transmission.  Totally original and unmolested car, with 2 owners and all paperwork.  Im excited.......

General Fox T-Bird/Cougar Discussion / Very oddly optioned 83 Heritage (mine)
So i will be creating a proper car thread shortly with pics as soon as i have finished detailing the new Heritage.  I am very confused by this car's options list.  I am very familiar with this year and model and i don't think i have ever seen such a stripped down Heritage edition.

Here is the odd list of known options:

All the standard Heritage options:
Power Windows, locks, mirrors and drivers seat

Here is the options it has:

digital clock
Manual AC
premium sound
non power antenna
no vent windows
no 2nd power seat
non locking fuel door with no remote release, its a delete option, never seen before

2 surprise options

buttstuffogue speedo
engine block heater

car also has no buck tag, not even the screw hole of where it is usually bolted on.

car is very original with crazy paperwork which i will post as i have everything sorted out.

User Rides / My new 1983 Thunderbird Heritage (Updated 8/12/15) New Pics Added
As some of you are aware, my 83 Heritage is a total loss from Hurricane Sandy.  I picked up a 87 Cougar XR-7 2 years ago to make me feel better and have something in the family to drive and wrench on.  I was unsuccessfully trying to sell it as i have a really clean 89 Lincoln LSC that fell in my lap this year.  A direct trade for a super clean 83 Heritage for my Cougar has been secured and i should be driving out to swap in 2-3 weeks.  The person i am trading is a pal and forum member and i can't begin to thank them for arranging the trade.  He swapped a spare TC he had with the 83's owner, and now is swapping with me to obtain the 83.  Its a 1983 Thunderbird Heritage 2 owner car with 60K miles.  Near perfect interior and almost no rust to speak of, as its a North Carolina car.  Here are a few pics for now.....

Feels really good to have a 83 in the stable once again.......
