Title: Midwest get together.
Post by: slamedcat on July 25, 2005, 08:57:11 PM
Ok, so the topic came up about CJ at differnt locations and for good reasons it isn't going to move.

So here it is a chance for us midwest farm boys and gals, if there are any, to get together. If I can see enough of a responce I will try to find some place for us to get together one weekend. It will probably be in the peoria/bloomington/noramal area, if this happens.

So stand up and voice your opinions on when and where.

I have a few places in mind.
Jubilee State Park (http://dnr.state.il.us/lands/landmgt/PDF%27s/jubilee.pdf)

Miller Park (http://www.google.com/local?hl=en&lr=&q=miller+park&near=Normal,+IL&sa=X&oi=locald&radius=0.0&latlng=40514167,-88990556,10917956260633655930)

Indiana - Kentucky border here...I'd like to try something like this for a day trip (hard to plan a weekend right now with the wife in school). Keep us posted for time and location. I couldn't make CatJam, family reunion same weekend.

IDK if you posted in cougarnuts about this idea. But it'll be a good idea for the thoughts of those people on that forum.

You may have already posted. I haven't checked.

I think I am going to shoot for the weekend of september 3/4/5.
This would give everyone monday to get home becasue it is Labor day. I will start calling around to see if there are any openings for that weekend. At the three places mentioned, unless some else has a better place to have it.

I dunno, that is still way far away for me. I just cant see myself driving for like 12 to 20 hours and spend like $600+ in gas just to go to Illinois

Bus ticket? :hick:

You could always set up a west coast meet.
And what is wrong with driving that far to goto Illinois. Just becasue we only have corn and livestock doesn't mean anyhting.

I'll be up for it as well.  I just need to know the set date so I can request off at work.  There's no way I could have made cat jam with the new motor going in.  The car should be running pretty good by then!

Anyone in the Ames/Des Moines area?  We could cruise over together.

Well since I have seen enough of an intrest in everyone wanting ot get together I have sent out a few emails to the park districts for reservations.

So it looks like we are shooting for the first weekend in Sept. if that sounds good to everyone.

And everyone has their cars together.

The resevations for the shelter are going to cost between $75-$100 per day. Donations are welcome to pay for this.

If we get the shelter I want we will have our own parking lot, frisbie golf course, built in grills, and power. On the low side though port-a-johns for bathrooms unless you want to walk. There is also 2 hotels within walking distance and a grocery store.

Doesn't sound to bad!

I assume the places have camping.  Any idea on the rates?  I'm too poor and cheap to pay for a hotel.
Title: Re: Midwest get together.
Post by: slamedcat on July 26, 2005, 11:36:28 PM
The one I was looking at doesn't. But there is an econo rate hotel right by the train tracks. Honestly I'm not being an ass it is fairly clean. I will still check into the the state park where there is camping.
Title: Re: Midwest get together.
Post by: amooset on July 26, 2005, 11:50:15 PM
How "econo" is the hotel?  I'd not want to spend more than 35-40 a night.  Camping could be as cheap as 20 bucks.

Post by: slamedcat on July 27, 2005, 12:12:10 AM
Not sure on how cheap they are but hey the name of the place in "MOTTELER'S THUNDERBIRD MOTEL".

I can check there and there is a super 8 across the street from there.

And yes there old sign had a neon thunderbird from the early 80's on it. But it is long gone now.

This (http://www.ci.chillicothe.il.us/business.html) is what all is located in the little town of Chillicothe, Il.

How do you want it? PayPal would be super easy for this!
Title: Re: Midwest get together.
Post by: slamedcat on July 27, 2005, 10:13:37 AM
Well I don't have a paypal account. So anyway possible. The way I look at it I will reserve the place and pay for it. Then what ever you guys decide to send for donation will reimburse me for it. Anything left over we can all go and get food, drinks.....
Title: Re: Midwest get together.
Post by: slamedcat on July 28, 2005, 09:48:21 PM
Ok I called the two hotels in Chillicothe.
Super 8 Motel rooms start at $50
Economy Inn (formerly Motlers thunderbird motel) rooms start at $40

I am looking for opinions on the location. Some would like to camp at the park and some would like hotel rooms. If we have this closer to peoria the room rates will go up but I want to say last time I went camping in the state park it ran me $25 and you can only have one car per camp site.

Need input on this to make it final. Also this is going to be a B.Y.O. type event. Food and drinks will be up to you to bring or buy when you get here. I can show you guys and gals where the cheap places are to shop.

What are the plans other than just "getting together"?  I mean, yeah, it's cool to get everyone together and go for a drive, but is there something we could do collectively in that area?

We have a casino there is always the down town bars. You name it we probably have it within a half hour drive.  :giggle: There is a big street racing scene here. :giggle: Thats if you are dumb enough to race some of the idiots.

There is a museum just north of Peoria call the "Wheels of Time Museum"

Here is some info on it.

Exhibits:
Hands-on displays. Autos. Fire trucks. Farm equipment. Clocks. Musical instruments. Toys. Fullsize RR.

Hours:
Wed-Sun: 12-5 May-November.

Ok, I can get the park reserved for sept 3. It looks like $25 for the whole day. It will be in Chillicothe which is about 25 to 30 min north of Peoria.

I would like to see a show of hand on how many would be coming before I reserve the place.

There isn't a lot to do in Chillicothe but we can drive to Peoria to do some thing as a group. There is a lot to do in Peoria. Go karts, down town bars, river boat casino, ....

If we don't get more than 3 or 4, I probably won't bother coming.  5-10?  I'll be there for sure.

Less than two weeks. I under stand with the whole gas price thing that some won't make it. If the guys that were intersted still want to get together or just the guys in Illinois I will still be here and waiting.

Sure, I'll be there, if someone loans me their car and the cash to get there. :D  Otherwise, looks like I'm not gonna make it anywhere until CJ 06, when I guarantee I'll be there, starting to put money aside as we speak.  If this is a decent success, ya should look into doing again next year, I'd definitely show.
