Title: Philly, DC, Harrisburg, Baltimore, Allentown
Post by: Cougars 2 go on May 26, 2014, 10:11:38 AM
There's nine of us that have put a pin on the map. If there are any other folks that you know of that live in this region, we could have the potential of a really nice gathering one Saturday this summer. If it's just the nine of us, that is still potential for a nice gathering if everyone shows up. Just kind of loosely estimating, it looks as though Shrewsbury, PA or a little further south maybe in pen 15eysville for Bleavitt23 is a midpoint from the farthest members of that cluster thus far. (Trying to estimate a mid-point between Jandmmustangs, Bleavitt23, KITZ KAT and Fordracer08. The rest of us fall within that perimeter that their locations create.)  If everyone is game for putting something together, we could determine who can commit and select a mid-point and find a park near that location and fire up the grille and that sort of thing.

If we expand the perimeter out a little bit to include the folks on Long Island, the location would probably be near Philadelphia or Wilmington.  The drive would be longer for those at the bookends but if everyone felt they still had the time for longer drives in both directions, we could have an even larger gathering.

I'd be into it. We need to do some kinda meet up.

I would be up for a get-together. I guess the hard part is figuring out a date which works for everyone. I know it would limit the people involved but I would prefer to limit the distance needed to travel. Just my 2 cents.

Yes, expanding the drive time too far beyond 1:15 each way or so starts to make for a very long day. Spending more time at the gathering than on the road would be a goal.

Also, should we see if anyone in the same region from overlapping circles (MarkVII, turbo Ford, TCCOA, etc) would be interested or just keep it to the FTBCF circle?

I think for the first one I would limit it to just FTBCF members and then expand if it goes well. Again, just my 2 cents. Hopefully someone else will chime in with their thoughts.

I'm definitely down for a meet.  I can do a 1:15 drive no problem.  It takes me that long to get to work most days.  But you're right - much longer than that and it can start to be an issue.  With enough notice I can do almost any weekend.  My wife works at home on the weekends so I would need to secure a babysitter.  I could really go either way on including other forums/clubs.  There are upsides and downsides to both.  Might be nice to keep it small for the first go-round? :dunno:

Bleavitt23 is a little further away from Jandmmustangs, KITZ KAT and Fordracer08 than I originally thought.  Looks like York or Shrewsbury or thereabouts would be an hour and 15 minutes for those three or four members north and east of there and the same or less for those of us south and southwest of there except Bleavitt23.  But Bleavitt23 could make it to Elkridge, MD in an hour and 15 and several of us nearby would get there in less time but that would be too far for those up in PA.

Looks like pen 15eysville or thereabouts is a rough mid-point between those at the southwest and northeast ends of the cluster but that gets to be about an hour and 40 minutes according to the Google maps time estimate.  That could be three hours of driving for those coming in from the perimeter.

Now you guys up in Long Island, that would be awesome if you could swing down too.  It would definitely be longer for you all.

But I suppose this dialogue would get a sense of who would show up and that, in turn, would influence the location.  But the cart and horse predicament is some people may not know if they can attend without knowing the location but the location may depend on who can show up.  But at least we are getting some dialogue here and a sense for who's game and such.  We may be able to find a park and nearby car show or cruise-in all in the same day in the same town.

Elkridge or pen 15eysville are both OK for me.  Obviously the farther south the better for my trip, but I don't mind driving extra.  My brother lives up in Baltimore so I make day trips up there several times a year.  I'd have to bow out if it were much north of B-More, though.

Poking around for Saturday cruise-ins at some locations that could be somewhat of a midpoint for our cluster yield the following. I don't know where to look up the most comprehensive cruise-in lists though, if such a list exists.  I pulled these events from http://www.carcruiseguide.org/coming_events

Advanced Auto Store Saturday Night Cruise located at 8820 Belair Rd Baltimore, MD 21236. (Corner of Belair and Silver Spring Rds behind Patient First)

Wegman’s Saturday Night Cruise 21 Wegman's Blvd Abingdon, MD 21009 Clint 443-824-6778 May thru October.

Walmart Saturday Night Cruise is Back! 8118 Perry Hills Ct Nottingham, MD 21236. Rick 443-847-3220

Wendy’s on Rt.22 2308 E Churchville Rd Bel Air, MD 21015 in Churchville will host a car cruise on Saturdays from 4-9pm beginning in April. 443-807-0286. dilworthsusan@gmail.com

Yeah, the more ideas the better. Right now, it seems only four or five of us would be game for something. But I'm only basing that on posts within this thread. Some others may be wanting to join but just don't have anything to add thus far in this thread.

Do you think such a park exists any more in ne MD/n DE/se PA that would allow bonfires?

We could do a day or weekend rental for a campsite at Broad Creek Scout Reservation.  Its very inexpensive and we can grill and have a fire also, even do a cabin rental if anyone wants to do a overnight.  http://www.broadcreekbsa.org/summer-camp/saffran/facilities/43190

I would be willing venture into northern Maryland for a get-together. I will say I have a pretty busy summer schedule so the date will probably be the tough part for me. A cookout at a park would be great. I would prefer a daytime get-together though.

I think the perimeter of this cluster of members is a little larger than one that would allow an hour and 15 minute trip for those at the edges. Red Lion, PA offers that time or less for most but not bleavitt.  A location better for bleavitt is too far for some in PA.  I looked at Churchville and Bel Air MD but those locations are around an hour and 40 minutes for a few folks at both ends of the spread.
Maybe we can find a park and cruise-in at Red Lion and anther park and cruise-in closer to DC on two different dates.  I would aim to attend both and it would be cool if those of us in the middle could attend both.  Being close makes attendance more reasonably achievable for people and increases our chance of good turnout.

Unless we plan a overnight at a inexpensive hotel and make it a wider scope.  I wonder if those who are further out would be more amenable to the trip if they could stay over and cruise the next day?  Could also make it a family thing if we do it during warm weather and find a place where the kids could sit and play in a pool all day while we do the car thing.  Just putting it out there......

Honestly, it takes me a good couple of hours to make it to Baltimore, and I probably wouldn't be able to make time for a two day trip, so I would say move it farther north and count me out of this one.  You'll get more attendance with the PA folks, and possibly NJ/NY folks.

June 27th there is a cruise-in at Shrewsbury. I've heard even though this is a cruise-in, it's huge. Like 700 cars huge. I'm not sure if the Sonic Cruise nights are the same size but here are the dates for both. There are probably parks nearby we could look at too so we could do the park thing during the day and the cruise in the evening like Eric arranged for Cat Jams on Saturdays. If we do one the end of this month, or early next month, that gives us a lot of daylight hours to minimize the amount of night time driving on the return trip. It also makes it possible for all of us to get home by 9pm and still have a full day of fun. Red Lion seems to be in the middle for those on the perimeter on both Maryland and PA ends of this spread. Shrewsbury adds some time for those in PA so I'd be inclined to shoot for Red Lion if everyone in this group can make it. For example there's less sense in having a gathering in PA if the MD folks are the only ones who can attend.

Hmm, well if we had a full day of fun on Saturday and nothing on Sunday would it still be worth an overnight?  Or perhaps hang with one or two members who live along your return path such as the Philly or NJ folks on Sunday.

This place is in my area http://www.cascadelake.com/ but this approaches a two-hour trip for those near Philly and Fleetwood.  But if everyone's game, this could offer a good option.  I haven't been there since I was a kid and I don't know how crowded it gets.  I suspect it gets crowded since this area is always growing.

This park has a pool but the web page manages expectations stating the pool reaches capacity on weekends and holidays during the summer.  And of course swimming in the lake isn't allowed.  It's a longer trip for some in PA though.

I am game for a get-together at a park. The cruise-in is cool but my T-Bird isn't a show car by any stretch of the imagination. I have never been to Codorus park but it looks to offer plenty of areas to picnic. I can be to Hanover in a little under an hour. Add another 20 minutes or so and I would be there.

No. I am now though. Looks like a good show. It also seems to be a midpoint, albeit farther away, between us in Maryland and those members near NYC.

Ford nationals in Carlisle should be First weekend in June. 2015 is going to feature Thunderbirds. The T Birds had a pretty small showing this last year. Only 8 in my class (80-90) , quite a bit more in the turbo class. The 2014 meet featured Mustangs. There must have been over 1000 of them.

I used this site http://www.geomidpoint.com/

The following locations are the results from entering the 14 pin locations folks here have posted on ZeeMaps.

center of minimum distance: 2800-2844 Stockton Road Phoenix, MD 21131, USA

midpoint: 1141 Walters Mill Road Forest Hill, MD 21050, USA

In/around Jarrettsville, MD appears to be half way between those two locations.

obviously phoenix would be better for me but really jarettsville is doable if that works for other people.

You and I are about 4-4.5 hours apart depending on where you are on LI. Would be a lot of driving for a two car meet.

I drifted away from logging in to this forum for a few reasons one of which it seemed the discussion moved over to facebook and I don't do facebook, instagram and whatnot.  There was a black XR-7 that recently popped up around Westminster - one time left on the side of the road near Random House on MD 27 some time around March or April.  Then I think it was listed for sale on the Internet more recently.  I can't remember if I saw it on ebay or Craigslist or whatever but it wasn't that long ago.  I'd be up to meet some folks at a central point determined by everyone's hometown as discussed earlier in this thread.  As always I'm sure we'd have a challenge to align schedules which is probably one of the biggest reasons this hasn't happened yet.  Good to 'hear' from you though.

I was new to this sight 3 years ago, and enjoyed all the tech info for the 1st 2 years. This last year alot of things were on the back burner for me, but T5 swap is being handled by a good friend of mine and should be mobile in the next few weeks. I would love to do Foxtoberfest in October, but am travelling for work. I thought something open to all Fox Bodies in the North East would be great.

So far, we have 5 people within a reasonable distance.

Typically, a lot of us do show up to Carlisle which ends up having a pretty good turn out for us. Last year, there were no fox Cougars, but a good handful of Thunderbirds.

It wouldn't be too hard to crash another gathering. Every Saturday, there is a gathering up in Hunt Valley, MD that has decent turn out. Not very central to the 5 of us in here, but still an idea.

October is booked full, but after that (and pretty much all of 2019) I should be free. The Cougar is just sitting there collecting dust (and mold - ack!) and slowly dripping fluids all over the garage. I suppose it's time to renew the AAA membership. :hick:
