The second one (which is sold) is not the correct part. The first one http://www.ebay.com/itm/87-89-Cougar-T-bird-Mark-VII-Throttle-Kick-Down-Cable-Column-Shift-E7SZ-7F042-A/331157905091?_trksid=p2047675.c100005.m1851&_trkparms=aid%3D222008%26algo%3DSIC.MOTORS%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D20466%26meid%3D5632997926647413025%26pid%3D100005%26prg%3D9138%26rk%3D1%26rkt%3D6%26sd%3D400681471138&rt=nc is correct for a column shifted 5.0 Thunderbird/Cougar. I have one on my Thunderbird right now. I bought it NOS from a dealer out in Kansas about 4 years ago. They were the only dealer with one on the shelf in the country at that time (confirmed by my local Ford dealer who gave me their contact info). At that time I paid a whole $59 for it.

90 bucks...... I remember these being much cheaper a few years ago.  I also remember parts being easier to find as well.

Late Model Resto sells the Mustang one which is the same as the column shift in the CatBirds.... it's $119....Made by Performance Automatic.

Ford part #'s are as follows:
-- Column shift:  E7SZ-7F042-A
-- Floor shift:  E7ZZ-7F042-A

The second ebay listing with part # E7S7-7A187-A shows for an 86-88 Thunderbird under a google search, but all the search links seem to lead to the same source which looks to be not a viable knowledge base.....

BTW -- Thank you Vin.  I bought the first one.  Always good to have stuff for the future.  My stockpile grows yet again.

I wonder if a TV cable for an 86-91 Crown Vic would be a viable option?  They are most likely shorter though due to the orientation of the throttle body being on the driver's side.

Looking around a bit..... I find this part number:  E9SZ-7F042-A    covers mn-12 cars and 89-93 Lincolns....  Is this simply an updated part number?  Can anyone confirm or deny any difference?

I don't think the Crown Vic would work at all.

I still have the packaging my TV cable came in (with my old TV cable in it) in the garage. I'll check tomorrow to see what the part number on the bag is. There was nothing wrong with the old TV cable on my Thunderbird. I just bought a new one when the trans was rebuilt because I figured new transmission why not a new TV cable?

Well the NOS Ford TV cable I purchased from a Ford dealer in Kansas 4 years ago is part number E7SZ-7F042-A. It is exactly identical to the stock TV cable that was on my Thunderbird from the factory.

I bought the first one linked in the first post for the very same reason.  Just wondering if the E9 is simply an updated part number.  Ford likes doing that...

It very well could be. Every time a slight revision was made they changed the part number. I should crawl under my Mark VII and see if the t.v. cable is the same as the Thunderbird t.v. cable. If so it's probably just a part number revision.

If they're both column shift they should be.  The link to the Late Model Resto one I posted above will work in floor shift CatBirds as well as Mustangs.  Should work in the floor shift Marks as well.

If the MN-12 one is just a small revision of some sort then we have another option.  Maybe there is even another with a later year listing.

All Mark VIIs are floor shift. I *think* the cables are the same between the two. I might try pulling the TV cable off the Mark and comparing it to the Thunderbird column shift TV cable I have. There is quite a bit of adjustment range at the throttle body end of the cable. I think if there is a slight difference in length you could make it up by adjusting the throttle body end of the cable. The end that connects to the linkage on the transmission is the same on both my Mark VII and the Thunderbird.

I thought some of the earlier Marks were column shift...  Then again I think every Mark VII I ever saw in person WAS a floor shift so....

Doesn't the linkage on the side of an AOD have to be moved when swapping from column to floor shift?  I was under the impression this might be where the difference between the two lies....

If you pull it off, get mucho pics.  Would be nice to see if they are indeed interchangeable.

I know the linkage is different between the Mark VII floor shift and the Thunderbird column shift on the side of the transmission. At the very least I'll try to get a picture of the linkage attachments. When it gets warmer out and I have some free time I'll try to get the TV cable off the Mark VII and compare it to the one from the Thunderbird. The Thunderbird floor shift cable connects to a bell crank which then connects to a rod which is then connected to the lever mounted on the transmission. The Mark VII cable just connects to a bracket mounted to the transmission. If the cables are the same length they *should* interchange. Should being the opportune word.
