both screens get ther power from the same wire. it is on the clip behind the tripminder pod (brown clip). the power comes in and goes into the speedo and then is sent from there to the tripminder pod. so if both are out the problem wouldbe in the speedo.BUT, you said that you swaped out with another cluster and the same happened. so this would mean that the problem is not in the speedo or the circut tape. the problem is in the wires. and you know it's not the fuses or the whole thing woon't work. so what you have is either the power wire has burned out or got cut or the ground did what you needto do is take a multi meter red side to the power wire on the brown clip position #17(light green/yellow wire) and then ground the black side of the multimeter to the frame(ilike to use the steering columb for the stuff by the cluster) turn on the key and see if you get 12v if you do it's good if you don't the wire is bad and you'll either want to trac it down to see wher it went bad or run a new one. if it's good then your ground is probably bad but to check it is all you have to do is put the black sid of the multi meter on the ground wire wich is on the brown clip position #18(black/light green wire) and then touch the red side to a power i'd go with the power for the tach side since you know it works and it's right there. it's located on the other clip position #14(Light blue/pink) then turn on the key and you shold get 12v if you don't it's bad and you'll want to track it or run a new one. but it should be one of those two wires. as long as you don't have any display at all when on. if there is a ghost display when on but it looks like the light is off then it's the illumination wire #12 white/light blue. happy hunting. if these don't work give another shout out and we'll go from there.
i've used some other buttons and installed them on a plastic plate where the ash tray used to be, since i don't smoke this was nothing to give up. sorry no pics.
hey bondo cougar, you've helped me somuch in the past i was hopping you might be able to work some magic angain for me. first off the folling question i know portains to a mn-12 cluster but bondocougar figured out the fox one so i figured he may know this one.so, bondocougar i have an mn-12 guage cluster that i've sucessfull installed in an '84 crown victoria and the guys at http://www.grandmarq.net and i were wondering if there was a mod to make the mn-12 full digi dash to read over 85 m.p.h. or if it already did that? we would apreciate any info. thanks:america:
no the one i was looking for a couple of months ago was the one that ended up bieng the bondocougar mod, the one that is for the cougar/t-bird full digi cluster. the one i'm inquiring about is the digi cluster out of an '83 town car, it still has the speedo cable hook to the back of it and lools like the one in this link.http://www.grandmarq.net/vb/showthread.php?t=10982 any help would b greatly apreciated.
o.k. i've been gone for a while, igot rid of my t-bird about 6 mounths ago and inherited my grandmothers crown vick. i've been at grandmarq.net. i've been spreading the digital cluster bug over there. i was telling them how the cougar clusters go over 85mph if you add a jumper to the w2 spot, and there's a guy that has a '83 lincoln town car that has a stock digi cluster and he was wondering if there was such a mod for his car since it displays 199 when it starts up. i know this technicly doesn't belong in a cougar forum but i figured that if any one would know it would be you guys. maybe bondocougar? but i would apreciate any info from any of you guy so please let me know.thanks in advance.
sorry it took so long to respond i moved out to the country and it took forever to get the internet back on. what i'm trying to do is take the fox digital dash and mod it into the crown vicky. and i needed to know if the wiring was the same so i could wire it up. P.S. i know about the sensor swaps and all that jaz. all i need to know is the wire colors and what they do on a crown vicky in '84 with the 5.0
hey guys i did mine in blue by taking the speedo pod out of the main housing then taking the guage out of the pod housing in the housing was a circut boad a thic clear plastic light difusser and the lcd screen with a piece of green opaque plastic glued on the back. i just removed the plastic, it was easy!!! then i just took a light grit sandpaper and roughed up the clear plastic diffuser and lit the thing with two blue l.e.d.'s it looks awsome. the only thing is you need to find a alternate power source for the l.e.d.s because if you turn on the headlight dimmers the l.e.d.s won't work. l.e.d.s are all or nothing. but it is really awsome..
this is the one with the same hermaphadite half carb half fuel injection throtle body P.O.S. that came in the '84 t-bird. i've already done something simular to my old '84 t-bird and was just wondering if the colors were the same ford wide. you know the blinker on a crown vic might be say for argument sake is purple(i don't know if this is the color or not) would the same blinker wire on the digi dash be purple to just in a different spot? i justwant top make shure before i start frying stuff by trial and error you know what i mean...
hey guys i know this don't belong at this site but i can't get anyone at any vicky site to answer me. and i know yu guys will know no matter what ford it is. so her it goes is all i need to know is if the wiring colors on an"84 vicky the same as the colors on the t-bird/cougar and do they do the same things(i.e. is the green with yellow the tach on both?)
hey guys i got rid of my cougar years ago and am in the process of moving and i found the the velvetish book cover for the owners manual and it's in pristine condition no cracks. i also found the owners guide an oporators guide books, their in fair condition.the books aren't perfect but the cover is and i don't need them as i don't have a cougar any more and i'm offering these up to anyone who wants them for what it cost to mail them to where you are. i would hate to throgh these away so some one maybe restoring a cougar needs a good set to display.let me know.
