Engine Tech / '88 tbird eec power relay location
Does anyone know where the eec power relay is on an 1988 thunderbird 5.0L please. A schematic would be great if possible.

 Thank you,
  Mike

Engine Tech / oil ser ring ?
Would anyone happen to know where to get or what size/thickness the rings are in a standard 4.0 bore 88 tbird 302so?
Could I use a ring from any 302so or 302ho?
On a visual the so pistons are dished flat tops with no reliefs and a slot drain back oil control ring land. Ho pistons have the dish, valve reliefs and small holes for the oil drain back oil control ring land.
One of my ser rings collapsed in my old 302so and was the reason it was fouling the plug, compression checked ok. My Bronco 302 is fubar and this motor would be good for it with a new ring.

  Thanks for any help

At The Track / 1/4 mile pass advise

1st and 2nd are good............3rd is    :barf:
The 2-3 drops to 3200-3300 rpm  traps 104mph on a 26" tire
5500rpm is peak power so a gear change might not do much.
Adding more boost earlier could help but this aod shifts too inconsistent.  A 5spd or 4r70w would be a better mod.
Thoughts anyone?

Engine Tech / what will she dyno pull to?
Mods below + gt40y heads, crane 2031 cam, fms 1.7, 42#
120k ho sb, approx  boost starts 1psi @ 3300  4-5psi  @ 5500
Mustang dyno. My guess 280hp

Engine Tech / Overheated engine
The car didn't seem to have the power it had last time at the track. Maybe a little more timing....but it started to ping at wot and I didn't get out of it right away. She started to run rough and thought it could be the #8 plug which fouls every once in while. New plug didn't help and she's running hot enough to kill the motor from a safeguard built into the tune. Thanks decipha!
She trys to make it home, overheated killed, won't crank and suspect hydralocking.:disappoin
Pressure test to confirm diag.
Pics to come.

At The Track / new track times
Best previous 2 runs:
2.23  2.21  60'
9.31  9.19  1/8
76.2  76.9  1/8 mph
14.37 14.21 1/4
98.5  99.26 1/4 mph

Last 2 runs:
1.92  1.98    60'
8.88  8.86    1/8
75.9  78.75  1/8 mph
14.03 13.87  1/4
96.4  98.5    1/4 mph

Only mods were drag radials and timing.
1st pass was the 14.03 with a slow trap speed which didn't hit 13's   Was it  bad driving  ? :flame:
2nd pass was all out trying to foot stall and 1d1 shuffle off the rev limiter. 60' foot was worse.
3rd pass overheated in the staging lanes, cooled and drove home.

Thoughts?

At The Track / back to the track
Last time at the track, the car's best time was around a 15.1 @ 91 na.
New mods: performer rpm in place of performer.
jba shorties, upr X pipe and borla lers vs stock exhaust.
pro-m 80, 30# inj, jaybird chip, cbaza strat vs de speed density.
paxton with powerpipe vs na.
New best time 14.2 @ 99
60' was still poor at 2.21. The 14" street tires have to be babied far too much.
The car was scaled at 3680# with a full tank reading 20 gallons. 17 gal. by the time it was driven to the track.
The times are definately slower than they should be, but considering the tires, heat, and pcv system, it just might dip into the 13's and hit 100mph with some tires/tweaks.
Horsepower guesses?
230 @ the wheels 290 @ the crank?
Bolt on hp since last run?
Rpm intake 0-5 hp
Exhaust 10-15 hp
Fuel inj and tune 15-20 hp
Supercharger 40-50 hp

 Thanks for the advise :D

Misc Tech / Exhaust mods
New exhaust mods and hopefully pics to follow:
Jba coated shorties(used but in good condition)
2 1/2" Upr x pipe (used)
2 new bosch 18" o2 sensors
2 new 2 1/2" borla xs lers
2 new flow tubes(ler to x)
2 mandrel bent tail pipes and dumps

Installation time was about what was expected. The x pipe sits a little low and the tail pipe is close to the tank on the right side. The headers and x pipe cleared the column shift linkage without mods.
The initial driveway install had to be refit at a ler shop. One of the flow tube s was bottoming out on highway dips. The tail pipes were also replaced with ones that fit the car better out back. This was also expected when mixing and matching parts. Overall, I am extremely happy with the sound and fit. The Borlas are noticeable on cold start up and wake up good on accel. Normal warm idle and steady cruise is quieter than expected with a deep mellow tone. Thanks to Michael P. for the help :D

Drivetrain Tech / 5 spd turbocoupe driveshaft
Found a driveshaft for an 87 turbocoupe. It looks like its a better balance than the current aod one  in the 88. Would it work?

Thanks

Engine Tech / twisted wedge exhaust match
I was looking at the exhaust ports on a set of twisted wedge heads and noticed the port didn't match the exhaust gasket and header.
Shouldn't this be honed out to match?

At The Track / More slomo times
Ran a 15.09 @91mph? with a 2.179 60' I don't have the slip with me and computer is down. The trans shifts way too high and probably cost me time. When the new exhaust is on, high 14's are within reach.

User Rides / Slopoke pics
I've been away from the board awhile and haven't worked on Slopoke much for about a year. Some of you may remember the pitiful times it ran last year(hence the Slopoke nickname from a "friend":rollin:) Something has to change before '08 is gone for good. While many of you may think Slopoke is a pos, remember it is a work in progress. I'll post progress pics here and in the related categories. It is good to be back running again:D

At The Track / Junk in the trunk
Actually a good transmission in the trunk :hick:
After last weeks run I decided to swap out the transmission that was in the trunk. It was supposed to be an AOD with 4r70w internals and a 1 piece shaft. The converter was new but it wasn't a 1 piece  Also it had a "B" servo in it, which seems strange if someone were to put the wide ratio stuff in it why would they leave a "B" servo in it. Heck the stock trans. had that with a good shift kit.
I wonder what it'll run without the trans in the trunk and a loose converter?:burnout:
